Advent/Christmas at Lexington Presbyterian Church

Advent is the Latin word for "coming".  Evidence for Advent practices date from the 5th and 6th centuries.  Our meditations during this season include both mourning and joy.  We rejoice over the first coming of the God-man, Jesus.  We rejoice over his presence with us.  Yet we mourn that his Kingdom and will have not yet fully subdued us or our world.  We wait expectantly for his return.  What follows are some ways we will wait on Christ together during this Advent.  Would you prayerfully consider bringing a neighbor or friend along with you in your Advent participation?  Lord, may your Kingdom come!

Advent Decorating
This Saturday at 9:00 am we will decorate the church for Advent.  Come and bring a neighbor with you!

Children's Advent Guide
Use a children's Advent guide and let it direct your meditations.  If you don't have children, you might use this with relatives or neighborhood children.  The guides are in the narthex.

Melanie Penn - A Folk/Pop Journey Through Christmas

Advent Corporate Worship
Our Sunday morning services will include messages from Galatians and Isaiah 42.  We will light the Advent candles, practicing our waiting on Christ.  Christmas Eve is on Sunday this year.  We will combine a traditional Christmas Eve service with our morning worship by having an expanded Lessons and Carols service at 10:30 am.  This is a great time to bring your work associates, family members and neighborhood friends.  They will have an opportunity to begin or continue being disciples of Jesus by participating in the worship part of worship, love and serve!

May the Peace of Christ be yours!
