Clay WernerClay Werner

Clay Werner, Senior Pastor

Pastor Clay grew up in Nashville, In., a small town south of Indianapolis. From there he pursued a degree in secondary education from Ball State University.  After spending some time in Colorado as a mountaineering and rafting guide, Clay pursued a degree in ministry from Westminster Seminary in California. During that time, he met his wife Liz. Clay was called to Chattanooga, TN for almost two years as an assistant pastor. From there he accepted the call to be our Senior Pastor. Clay and Liz have two children, Isaac and Claire, and spend a lot of time chasing them around.


Dave & Barbara BindewaldDave & Barbara BindewaldDavid A. Bindewald, Associate Pastor
Dave Bindewald was born in Greenville, SC. He grew up in Durham, NC and attended Durham High School. He received a B.A. in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill in 1973, and married Barbara Jane Bly soon after graduation. For the next twelve years he was part owner and manager of a steakhouse in Greensboro, NC. Dave was converted in Greensboro at age 29, and left the restaurant business soon thereafter. Two years later he and his family moved to Columbia, SC for him to enroll at Columbia International University Graduate School of Bible and Missions where he received an M.Div. degree in 1986. After two years on staff at Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia, he and his family went to Tokyo, Japan as church planters. They completed 10 years of service with SEND International and Mission to the World and returned from the field in the summer of 1998. Dave started as Assistant Pastor of Lexington Presbyterian Church on December 1, 1998 and was called as Associate Pastor in January 2002. Dave & Barbara have two children, Dave (married Erin Mollenkof in December 2001 and is a campus minister at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburg) and Erin (a nurse in Pittsburg). They also have two grandchildren, Ella Grace born in November 2005, and Lucy Jane born in November of 2007.


Greg Marshall & FamilyGreg Marshall & FamilyGreg Marshall, Assistant Pastor of Youth and Families
Greg grew up in a variety of places around the country and around the world as his dad was in the Army. He called Northern Virginia home though for many years. Greg attended high school overseas in Germany and then graduated from Covenant College in Chattanooga, TN in 1992. He worked as a youth director for 8 years at a Presbyterian church in Rock Hill SC. Greg attended Reformed Theological Seminary, graduating in 2001. He has been our Assistant Pastor of Youth and Families since June of 2001. Greg is married to Ruthanna and they have three wonderful boys, Timothy, Jonathan and Caleb, and a beautiful little girl, Annagrace. Just have one dog now, Dexter.

Frances & Jim McFarlandFrances & Jim McFarlandFrances McFarland, Director of Children's Ministries
Frances is a native of Lexington, and is a graduate of Lexington High School. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology with a minor in psychology from the University of South Carolina. Frances was a social worker in the Children and Family Services Department at Berkley County Department of Social Services and Richland County Department of Social Services until the birth of her first child. While spending time with her children at home and volunteering with their preschool and church programs, she returned to USC and attended graduate school where she earned a degree in elementary education. Frances has been a volunteer in church children's ministry programs for 15 years. She taught three and four year olds in church preschool programs for 11 years before accepting the position of Director of Children's Ministries at Lexington Presbyterian Church in August of 1999. She is married to Jim and has two children, Russell and Leslie. Wedding bells rang for both Russell and Leslie during the summer of 2005. The addition of two wonderful in-laws, Cathy and Jason, has truly been a blessing from God!


Vicki AccordiniVicki AccordiniVicki Accordini, Assistant Director of Children's Ministries
Vicki is a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina. Raised in a Christian home she was converted at an early age. Upon marrying Don she moved to West Columbia. For 18 years she has been a full-time homemaker to her 3 children. In 1974 she began assisting in the children’s ministry at her church. It was there that God gave her an unquenchable thirst for sharing the love of God with children. She joined LPC in l985 and immediately began teaching 5 year olds. She so fell in love with these precious children she began moving up with them until the 4th grade where she waved them goodbye (by the way-they are now in college) and currently she remains the 4th and 5th grade teacher. Vicki has 27 years experience in children’s ministry.

Music Staff

  Tim NicholsonTim NicholsonTim Nicholson, Director of Music

Tim grew up a preacher's kid and lived on both the east and west coasts before his family settled in Savannah, GA. After completing a BA in Music at Armstrong Atlantic University, the piano brought him to the Debrecen Conservatory in Hungary. Since then he's held a number of different jobs, including working on a dude ranch and managing a whitewater/outdoor adventure outpost.  Tim has served in various music ministry roles including directing the music at an US Army chapel, playing in and leading church bands and orchestras, and leading an RUF music ministry. He recently completed a year-long church music internship in Joppa, MD while teaching piano at a music school in Philadelphia. Tim enjoys the New Yorker magazine, Coldplay, the Atlanta Braves, reading all kinds of books, international travel and anything outside.


 

Barb Howell, Choir Accompanist
Barb Howell is our Choir Accompanist. She has been playing the piano since she was 8 years old, and has accompanied in churches since she was 12 years old (although she still acts at least 16). She has a Masters of Music Education from the University of South Carolina, certified in AP Music Theory, and teaches Music Theory Honors and Group Piano. In addition, Barb is the Choral Director at White Knoll High School. Barb is an accomplished organist and has previously served as music director. She is married to a really nice man named Bob and they have two wonderful children.


Robin ParlerRobin ParlerRobin Vaughan Parler, Organist
Mrs. Parler is married to John Parler and has 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren. She began playing for church services when she was in the 6th grade as an organist and pianist. She was formerly the instrumentalist at Lexington Baptist Church, Park Street Baptist and Round Hill Baptist Church. At Round Hill, Robin was the Music Director and directed the children, youth and adult choirs. She and John left Round Hill to join Lexington Presbyterian Church in 1981. Robin has served as organist, pianist, and the Jr. and Sr. Youth choir director. She graduated from Lexington High School, Brevard College (AA in Music ) and continued her education at USC in Columbia for two more years working toward her degree in Piano Performance with a minor in organ. She studied voice with Dr. Arpad Darazs at USC. Robin went on to become an active member of the CMTA and served on the Board of Directors of the SCMTA. She has served as a professional accompanist at U.S.C.,Columbia. Robin has been teaching private lessons in piano, organ and keyboards since 1971, and still loves every minute of it!
